ZIB Akademy 2019
The fifth ZIB Academy was dedicated to the theme "Reading, Writing, and Writing about Reading: Cognitive and Non-Cognitive Variables of Language in PISA." From July 8 to 11, 2019, doctoral students and postdocs from various disciplines gathered at the Bildungshaus Bernried on Lake Starnberg.
The diverse program included high-quality lectures as well as application-oriented workshops. On behalf of the ZIB, Prof. Dr. Doris Holzberger (TU Munich) welcomed the participants. The subsequent lectures focused on reading in the digital age (Prof. Dr. Tobias Richter, University of Würzburg), covariates of reading competence (Dr. Franziska Schwabe, IFS Dortmund), modeling writing competence (Prof. Dr. Michael Becker-Mrotzek, University of Cologne), as well as reading competence in PISA (Dr. Mirjam Weis) and the collection of process data in PISA (Julia Mang & Dr. Frank Reinhold). In practical workshops, participants explored and discussed the application (Dr. Aleksander Kocaj, IQB) and analysis of PISA data (Jörg-Henrik Heine, TU Munich), as well as the automated analysis of text responses (Dr. Fabian Zehner, DIPF).
The academy was rounded off by opportunities to exchange ideas about their own research during a poster session and a Science Slam with exciting prizes. Additionally, the proximity to Lake Starnberg invited participants to engage in non-cognitive activities before and after the cognitive program.
